Family Life Center Challenge
As a church, we are extremely thankful to the Lord, & to the generations of Bethelonians who have given prayerfully & sacrificially so we can operate completely DEBT-FREE! The only debt we carry is the debt of love for the Lord & our neighbors. Since our Family Life Center opened in 1995, the lives of thousands of children, youth & families have been impacted by the Gospel therein. The time has come to renovate our facility to meet the Gospel challenges of the next 25 years. Please prayerfully consider donating to the upgrade of our Family Life Center. Now is the time for God’s people to call out to Him for mercy on our nation. We will invest specific time in intercessory prayer during Worship to pray for our nation. I invite all who can (please do not fast from food, if your health depends on medication taken with a meal), to please fast from eating (or some other activity) on Sunday, October 25, 2020. Remember, fasting is not about legalism, it is about love. You may choose to modify your fast from noon on Sunday to noon on Monday, or you may choose another day during these last days leading up to Election Day, November 3. As you fast, please feast on God’s Word, & cry out to Him for His mercy & grace on America. Remember, Jesus Christ is the only hope for humanity. Ask the Lord to exalt those who lead us in paths of righteousness, & thwart those who seek to lead us in paths of wickedness.

Through the years, we have provided vacation Bible schools, evangelistic meetings, English classes, & construction teams. In January 2020, we'll return to lead VBS. Bethel Baptist Notice, July 3, 2020 (English Campus Only / Solo campus de inglés): During the past two weeks, the Bethel staff has been notified that at least four members have tested positive for COVID-19. These members are recovering & began self-quarantining at the onset of symptoms. Prior to the presentation of their symptoms, these members attended our weekly Worship Service. As of today, several other members are exhibiting COVID-like symptoms. Some are waiting for test results, some have opted to forego testing, but as far as the Bethel staff knows, all have voluntarily self-quarantined. It is not clear where, how, or when any of the members who have tested positive may have been infected. Each of them, as many other people, have been in contact with many people outside of our church in weeks prior to the presentation of their symptoms. We are praying for the full recovery of everyone who is currently ill, & the Lord’s protection on all who may come into contact with the virus. In an effort to mitigate potential exposure to the COVID-19 virus, aggressive measures of sanitation & disinfecting will immediately be implemented. All meeting spaces will receive surface & atmospheric treatment, followed by fresh-air ventilation. Due to the minimum time necessary to complete the planned treatments, all on-campus meetings for this Sunday, July 5, 2020 are hereby suspended. Please continue to monitor this website for updates, pray for our members & neighbors, & praise the Lord that He’s in control.

Mientras una pandemia viral global ciertamente parece un nuevo desafío para el pueblo de Dios, la idea de la cuarentena y el distanciamiento social es divina, y es anterior al descubrimiento científico de bacterias por miles de años. En 1683, el empresario Holandés y fabricante de lentes, Antonie Philips van Leeuwenhoek observó por primera vez bacterias con la ayuda de un microscopio de un lente de su propia fabricación. Mucho antes de las observaciones de Leeuwenhoek, los científicos tenían teorías acerca de la existencia de microorganismos que podían causar dichas cosas como la descomposición de materiales orgánicos, y la difusión de enfermedades. Interesantemente, el Creador de todos los organismos, macro y micro, advirtió a Su pueblo sobre los peligros de la proximidad, especialmente contacto físico, con respecto a la enfermedad y la muerte. Números 5:1-4 (RVR1960) “1Jehová habló a Moisés, diciendo: 2Manda a los hijos de Israel que echen del campamento a todo leproso, y a todos los que padecen flujo de semen, y a todo contaminado con muerto. 3Así a hombres como a mujeres echaréis; fuera del campamento los echaréis, para que no contaminen el campamento de aquellos entre los cuales yo habito. 4Y lo hicieron así los hijos de Israel, y los echaron fuera del campamento; como Jehová dijo a Moisés, así lo hicieron los hijos de Israel.”
Levítico capítulos 12-15 dan instrucción divina al pueblo de Dios en cuanto a la cuarentena y el distanciamiento social por una variedad de razones médicas, y con una variedad de tiempos observados. Aunque los textos Bíblicos no mencionan expresamente la existencia de microbios, nos enseñan que existen peligros contagiosos entre aquellos que han demostrado síntomas obvios (como manchas de leproso o flujo corporal) e incluso aquellos que, aunque aparentemente sin síntomas, han estado expuestos a contagios peligrosos (como los que han tenido contacto con un cadáver). Los mandamientos del Señor concernientes a estas cuestiones no intentan inicial el pánico ni la paranoia, por el contrario. Las instrucciones del Señor están destinadas a proveer una guía cuidadosa para un comportamiento saludable, incluyendo instrucciones que se refieren directamente al recogimiento físico para la adoración. A los sacerdotes levitas se les dio el deber de evaluar las enfermedades y de prescribir modificaciones del comportamiento basadas en las pautas codificadas del Señor.
Estas prácticas todavía se observaron durante el ministerio terrenal de Jesús. En múltiples ocasiones ofrecidas en los evangelios, Jesús atendió las necesidades de aquellos que estaban bajo cuarentena sacerdotal. En algunas instancias, Jesús rompió la cuarentena para sanar físicamente a los enfermos (Mateo 8:1-4). En otras ocasiones, El observo el distanciamiento social y simplemente pronuncio verbalmente su sanidad (Lucas 17:11-14). Otras veces, Cristo permitió ser tocado por aquellos que observaban distanciamiento social bajo la Ley (Lucas 8:43-48). En todos estos ejemplos, se nos recuerda que Cristo es el Sanador, el Gran Medico, Dios con nosotros. Jesús no temió a las enfermedades, y como Sus seguidores no debemos temer. Jesús no temió a la muerte, así como sus seguidores no debemos temer. La variedad de ejemplos del ministerio de Jesús nos revelan lo obvio acerca de Él, que El Es Dios. También nos revelan otra importante lección para todos los que le seguimos, Jesús amo a los enfermos. Al ir a ellos, Jesús no estaba anulando las instrucciones Levíticas concernientes al distanciamiento, sino que estaba enviando un claro mensaje, no solo concerniente a Su poder divino sobre la enfermedad, sino también Su amor divino por todas las personas, sanas y enfermas: Todas las personas deben ser amadas. Es importante notar que los actos de sanidad física de Jesús también fueron señales de que El solo tiene la autoridad de proveer sanidad espiritual, el perdón de pecados (Marcos 2:1-12).
¿Que debemos aprender de ésto los seguidores de Cristo? Nosotros podemos confiar siempre en el Señor. Su sabiduría que se encuentra en su palabra es eterna. Su pueblo no necesita temer lo conocido o lo desconocido (2 Timoteo 1:7). En tiempo de enfermedad, y en tiempos de salud, el Señor reina como Rey. Debemos amar a las personas en todo tiempo. La muerte viene a todos nosotros, y poner nuestra fe en Jesucristo asegura la sanidad del pecado en esta vida, y resurrección de la muerte en la siguiente (Juan 3:16, 11:25-26). El tiempo del distanciamiento social ciertamente llegara a su fin, pero el tiempo para confiar en Jesucristo y amar a nuestros prójimos es eterno (Mateo 22:37-40).

También nos revelan otra importante lección para todos los que le seguimos, Jesús amo a los enfermos. Al ir a ellos, Jesús no estaba anulando las instrucciones Levíticas concernientes al distanciamiento, sino que estaba enviando un claro mensaje, no solo concerniente a Su poder divino sobre la enfermedad, sino también Su amor divino por todas las personas, sanas y enfermas: Todas las personas deben ser amadas. Es importante notar que los actos de sanidad física de Jesús también fueron señales de que El solo tiene la autoridad de proveer sanidad espiritual, el perdón de pecados (Marcos 2:1-12).
¿Que debemos aprender de ésto los seguidores de Cristo? Nosotros podemos confiar siempre en el Señor. Su sabiduría que se encuentra en su palabra es eterna. Su pueblo no necesita temer lo conocido o lo desconocido (2 Timoteo 1:7). En tiempo de enfermedad, y en tiempos de salud, el Señor reina como Rey. Debemos amar a las personas en todo tiempo. La muerte viene a todos nosotros, y poner nuestra fe en Jesucristo asegura la sanidad del pecado en esta vida, y resurrección de la muerte en la siguiente (Juan 3:16, 11:25-26). El tiempo del distanciamiento social ciertamente llegara a su fin, pero el tiempo para confiar en Jesucristo y amar a nuestros prójimos es eterno (Mateo 22:37-40).

While a global viral pandemic certainly seems like a new challenge for God’s people, the idea of quarantining and social distancing is divine, and predates the scientific discovery of bacteria by thousands of years. In 1683, Dutch businessman & lens-maker, Antonie Philips van Leeuwenhoek first observed bacteria with the help of a single-lens microscope of his own making. Long before Leeuwenhoek’s observations, scientists were theorizing about the existence of microorganisms that could cause such things as the decay of organic materials, and the spread of disease. Interestingly, the Creator of all organisms, macro and micro, warned His people about the dangers of proximity, especially physical contact, with regard to disease and the dead. Numbers 5:1-4 (HCSB) “1 The Lord instructed Moses: 2 “Command the Israelites to send away anyone from the camp who is afflicted with a skin disease, anyone who has a [bodily] discharge, or anyone who is defiled because of a corpse. 3 You must send away both male or female; send them outside the camp, so that they will not defile their camps where I dwell among them.” 4 The Israelites did this, sending them outside the camp. The Israelites did as the Lord instructed Moses.”

The Lord’s commands concerning such issues are not intended to incite panic nor paranoia, quite the opposite. The Lord’s instructions are meant to provide careful guidelines for healthy behavior, including instructions as they pertain directly to the physical gathering for worship. Levitical priests were given the duty of assessing illnesses and prescribing behavior modifications based on the Lord’s codified guidelines.
These practices were still observed during the days of Jesus’ earthly ministry. On multiple occasions offered in the gospels, Jesus attended to the needs of those who were under priestly-prescribed quarantine. In some instances, Jesus broke quarantine to physically heal those who were sick (Matthew 8:1-4). Other times He observed social distancing and simply verbally pronounced their healing (Luke 17:11-14). Still other times, Christ allowed Himself to be touched by those who should have observed social distancing under the Law (Luke 8:43-48). In all of these examples, we are reminded that Christ is the Healer, the Great Physician, God with us. Jesus was not afraid of illness, just as His followers are not to be afraid. Jesus was not afraid of death, just as His followers are not to be afraid. The variety of examples from Jesus’ ministry reveal the obvious about Him, that He is God. They also reveal another important lesson for all who follow Him, Jesus loved the sick. By going to them, Jesus was not nullifying the Levitical instructions concerning distancing, but He was sending a clear message, not only concerning His divine power over illness, but also His divine love for all people, healthy and sick: All people are to be loved. It is important to note that Jesus’ acts of physical healings were also signs that He alone has authority to provide spiritual healing, the forgiveness of sin (Mark 2:1-12).
What should those who follow Christ learn from this? We can always trust the Lord. His wisdom found in His Word is timeless. His people do not need to fear the known nor the unknown (2 Timothy 1:7). In times of illness, and in times of health, the Lord reigns as King. We are to love people at all times. Death comes for all of us, and trusting in Christ ensures healing from sin during this life, and resurrection from death in the next (John 3:16, 11:25-26). The time for social distancing will certainly come to an end, but the time for trusting in the Lord and loving our neighbors is eternal (Matthew 22:37-40).

A Biblical Perspective on Quarantining & Social Distancing

April 29, 2020: In careful consideration of the Guidance for Houses of Worship During the COVID-19 Crisis issued by the Governor and the Texas Attorney General, we are herby offering in-person worship, and a limited number of administrative meetings beginning Sunday, May 3, 2020. All in-person Bethel & La Hermosa activity should strive to follow these simple guidelines: 1. Maintain social distancing by not engaging in physical contact with people who do not live in your home (no hugging or hand shaking please), 2. Maintain sufficient personal hygiene by using sanitizer &/or soap & water often, 3. If you are ill, have experienced illness within the previous 48 hours, or had close contact with someone who is/has, please stay home, 4. Wearing face masks which cover the nose & mouth is highly encouraged, but not mandatory, 5. Those who are 65 years old or older, or anyone suffering from compromised health, are welcome, but also strongly encouraged to worship remotely for the near future.

Since 2001, Bethelonians have been traveling to Transnistria to bring the hope of Christ to children. In 2013, we began partnering with Grace Baptist Church in Benderi, Transnistria to provide Bible camp for kids. Our day camp includes four days of breakfast, games, crafts, English classes, songs, Bible lessons, lunch, & more. Each year we also provide a one-day Bible camp for another group of children in a neighboring community. While the decision not to gather for Sunday morning Worship is a difficult one with compelling merits on both sides, we recognize our duty as Believers, who are submitted to the authority of Christ, to also follow the teaching of Holy Scripture which instructs us to submit to the authorities that God has ordained. Since 2009, Bethelonians have been traveling to Guatemala in partnership with missionary Teri Littrell & the House of Healing Ministry. Through the years, we have built many homes for widowed or abandoned moms & their children. We have also built a kitchen facility for the school in Agua Econdida. The school also invites our team to teach English to their students. In February 2020, we'll return to build 3 homes. Join our team by praying, giving financially, or going with us. Each year during Spring Break, we take youth, adults, kids (& whole families) to Arlington, Texas for a week of sleeping on the floor, sharing very close quarters, & stepping well outside our comfort zones. We partner with Mission Arlington, to bring the Gospel & the joy of the Lord to kids in the inner city. Long days, short nights, & a constant focus on serving the Lord & others, grows us closer to each other & Him.

What is Upward Basketball & Cheer?
Upward Basketball & Cheer is a dynamic sports program for kids Pre-K - 6th grade. Upward focuses on excellence in teaching the fundamentals of basketball & cheerleading. Our coaches, along with the many other volunteers, provide a fantastic environment for kids to fall in love with sports, fitness, teamwork, & sportsmanship. Upward focuses on encouragement, not politics - fair competition, not team-stacking - team work, not ball-hogging - fun, not stress - excellence, not mediocrity. The very best thing about Upward is its focus on Jesus Christ. Players & cheerleaders are surrounded by loving coaches, referees, & commissioners who carefully share the hope of eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ. For cheerleading, a cheer uniform is provided (cheer top & skorts & pom poms). However, for cheerleading only, a white undershirt (short or long sleeved) is required. All EMC area students are invited to join us during the school year on Saturday nights (6:00-9:00 pm) for our weekly fellowship & worship time. Each week is a different mix of recreation, going out to eat & worship led by our RiseUp Band. It all happens in our gymnasium. When we stay on our campus, snacks are provided for a dollar (drinks, pizza, etc.). When we go out to eat, it's usually to Chick-fil-A, Taco Bell, CiCi's Pizza, or Whataburger (so just bring $ for fast food).

Our missionaries will join hundreds of other Spring Break missionaries from throughout the United States for a week of taking Christ to the residents of multi-housing communities (apartment complexes, mobile home parks, etc.). Please pray for our team as they serve faithfully to sow the seeds of the Gospel in the hearts of many. Ask for traveling mercies, good health & energy, spiritual protection, & for the Gospel to be communicated clearly & powerfully through our team. How, How Much & When?
Through our FUNds FOREVER Playground Campaign, families are encouraged to let their kids put their financial gifts into the Collection Well located in the Worship Center Foyer. A giving graph located on the Collection Well will display our most recent balance & just how far we have to go before our playground is ordered. Of course families & individuals are invited to give to the FUNds FOREVER Playground Campaign through E-GIVING, or by designating their gift through the weekly offering.
Our complete play system will cost $38,000. The perimeter fence will cost $2,000. Our total goal is $40,000.
Because of our gratitude for being debt-free & our deeply-held conviction to remain debt-free, we will not purchase any part of our playground until our total goal has been met. Meeting our goal is completely dependent on the faithfulness & generosity of those who give. Please pray about how God wants you to join us as we participate in growing Kingdom kids."

All EMC area students (7th grade-college) are invited to join one of our HomeTeams. Student HomeTeams are small groups of teens & trusted grown ups that focus on loving God, loving people & changing the world through fellowship, Bible study & serving others. Some Student HomeTeams meet on our campus, some meet in homes. Visit our student ministry page to see a directory listing times, locations & contact information.
All EMC area students are invited to join us on Saturday nights (6:00-9:00 pm) for our weekly fellowship & worship time. Each week is a different mix of recreation, going out to eat & worship led by our RiseUp Band. It all happens in our gymnasium. When we stay on our campus, snacks are provided for a dollar (drinks, pizza, etc.). When we go out to eat, it's usually to Chick-fil-A, Taco Bell, CiCi's Pizza, or Whataburger (so just bring $ for fast food).

About 60 adults, teens & children will represent Bethel in the Fort Worth/Dallas Metroplex during Spring Break. Our missionaries will join hundreds of other Spring Break missionaries from throughout the United States for a week of taking Christ to the residents of multi-housing communities (apartment complexes, mobile home parks, etc.). Please pray for our team as they serve faithfully to sow the seeds of the Gospel in the hearts of many. Our Camo Supper for Guys is scheduled for THIS Sunday, March 1 (RAIN OR SHINE). All guys (men, teens, & boys) are wanted for some fun "guy-time." Come at 6:00 pm & stay until 8:00 pm. We'll have knife throwing, archery, & more...all for free. The meal will include tea, a variety of grilled meats, & sweets...all for free. We'll enjoy a special program by Steve Boyd (Executive Director of PowerPlus Camps). You don't need to register...you just need to bring all the guys you can & come on. The attire is anything camouflage!

Kids' Choir
Hallelujah Kids' Choir provides a healthy opportunity for children to develop their skills through the choral & dramatic arts. Kids practice for seasonal on-stage presentations. They love worshiping their Best Friend with their best friends. The kids' choir practices are seasonal. Contact the church office for details.

Costa Rica & Guatemala
Teams from Bethel have served numerous times in Costa Rica, leading vacation Bible schools, completing construction projects in mission churches, & sharing the Gospel with hundreds of amazing people. We serve through the mission endeavors of PIBD (Primera Iglesia Bautista Desamparados, Costa Rica).
Since 2009, our pastor, Tim Davis, has served in Guatemala with the Pineywoods Camp staff & Mike Brister of Stepstones Ministry International, to build homes for orphans & widowed moms among the Mayan people groups. Our efforts are carefully guided through the wisdom of career-missionary Teri Littrell. The Bethel RiseUp Student Ministry gives sacrificially so that Lucrecia (a most beautiful Guatemalan girl) can attend public school each year.
Our latest adventure in Guatemala included ten Bethel members & resulted in the building of two new homes for Guatemalan widows & their children. Special thanks to Pineywoods Camp & PowerPlus Camps for funding the construction of one house & sponsoring one member of our team.
